In the post on Land Abroad we did a brief evaluation of buying land in the Cayman Islands. We mentioned that Cayman laws allow foreign citizens to own land in the country with freehold title and that Cayman had an excellent system of land records maintenance. We also noted that Cayman is British Territory where Common Law operates.

In this post we look in a little more detail at the islands and why buying land on the islands is a really good idea. As mentioned in the post referred above, the Cayman consists of three main islands, each of which has its own unique attraction while all have sunny climates and great beaches that constitute a major tourist attraction. We had also seen that the country’s capital, George Town, accommodates hundreds of bank offices making it a top financial center in the world.

George Town is located on Grand Cayman, the most developed of the three islands. The famed Seven Mile Beach on the island accommodates many luxury hotels and resorts, as well as luxury homes. George Town itself offers great shopping while the Robert Owen International Airport nearby has regular flights to several U.S. destinations as well as London Heathrow.

The North Sound, an extensive reef-protected lagoon, is also on the Grand Cayman. The shallow lagoon is ideal for water sports like diving, snorkeling, kayaking and more.

Cayman Brac, the second largest island of the group, is dominated by a limestone ridge that rises gradually from the middle of the island to create The Bluff, a 140 feet high, vertical cliff rising from the sea on the eastern coast of the island. The steep cliff offers climbing facilities that are world-class.

The quaint Little Cayman, just one mile wide, has the world’s top wall diving facility. Wall diving involves diving along a vertical underwater cliff and at Bloody Bay, Little Cayman has a vertical cliff under water that goes 1000 feet down to the ocean bottom.

It is no wonder that wealthy retirees from all over the world have chosen Cayman Islands as their retirement retreat.
