The post on Buying Property Overseas looked at the returns potential of investing in land abroad.  That post identified the key factors for successful property investment abroad, viz.

  • Selection of a country where demand for land is likely to go up fast,
  • Local laws allow freehold ownership of land by foreign citizens and
  • Managing the property is not likely to be a problem.

Let us now evaluate one such investment opportunity involving investing in land in the Cayman Islands. Cayman is British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean with a governor appointed by the British Monarch and a parliament elected democratically by local citizens. Like all Caribbean islands, the Cayman is also a sunny tourist destination with splendid beaches on the deep blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.

The Cayman is also a top financial center of the world with nearly a thousand bank offices (including UBS and Merrill Lynch offices) at George Town, the capital city.  The country has one of the highest living standards in the world.

Cayman government permits foreign citizens to own land in the country with freehold title and the system of land records maintenance is excellent with each piece of land being identified through a unique Block and Parcel number. Local planning department keeps a watch on land use separating residential and commercial zones.

Cayman Islands include Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. All the islands have sunny environments and great beaches. Additionally, each of the islands has its own unique attraction. Grand Cayman is a developed place with all modern amenities and also has the North Sound, a 35 square mile lagoon ideal for water sports. Cayman Brac has The Bluff and Little Cayman has the world’s top wall diving facility at the Bloody Bay.

Investors seeking land for investment abroad can find developed land plots on all the three islands.
